Merry Christmas Mary Ann!!
Mary Ann, if you believe - Then you'll know that it's true
Your dear Cassie - Is wishing Merry Christmas to you
Princess Cassandra of Stonybrook - That was my given name
In the summer of 1985 - I was six weeks old when I came!!
You got me at Knollwood Mall - Out in Hopkins to the west
I was so small that I could fit - In a pocket in Tom's old vest
Remember when I ran away - And you found me by the riverbank
All covered with stickers - My paws were all muddy and stank!!
But it didn't matter to you - I was your little girl
You loved me unconditionally - Even when I was chasing a squirrel
Up and down the stairs I'd go - Now when I think back
I'm glad I never caught one - It probably would have gone on the attack!!
I do have one confession - Jane was totally correct
I used to pee on the kitchen carpet - Hey! No dog is perfect
But you always defended me - No, my Cassie wouldn't do that
But here in Doggie Heaven - I just lay on a special mat!!
And the time I almost starved - When Jane lost the key
You and Joe were out of town - And Jane couldn't feed me
I just sat and whimpered - I knew Jane felt so sad
But I made out all right - I just played with the toys I had!!
There was always much excitement - With something going on
And someone would pet me - I'd just lay there and yawn
I remember when Andrea - That little Brazilian girl
She was so nice to me - And laughed as I chased a squirrel!!
And all the Rotary parties - There was plenty of food for me
Those were lots of fun - Then off to the kitchen for a pee
And when I got sick - My heart just wouldn't work right
You took me to Dr. Brandjord - And we both kept up the fight!!
Well Mary Ann, I thank you - From the bottom of my heart
You were the greatest mom - Right from the very start
And don't worry about me - I'm really doing fine
And some day we'll be together - You'll hear my familiar whine!!
Woof!!woof!! Merry Christmas!!
Love Cassie
